Shakespeare for Social Justice Introductory Weekend

In this experiential 2-day workshop, participants will explore the connections between Shakespeare, theater and Social Justice within prisons and other institutions. The benefits and caveats of teaching Shakespeare within a prison context will be explored. Participants will be introduced to theory and practices that inform Marin Shakespeare’s approach to bringing Shakespeare as well as life-story theater to individuals who are incarcerated, Awareness of diversity issues, intergenerational trauma, racism, addiction and poverty as applied to prison populations will also be discussed. Finally, the ways in which Shakespeare and theater prison programs can be utilized to create wider systemic changes will be explored.
This workshop is geared toward teaching artists, drama or expressive arts therapists, performers as well any individuals who have an interest in theater and social justice.

Teen Camp: Much Ado About Nothing (June 24-July 12, 2024)

Work with a professional director to rehearse and perform Shakespeare’s beloved comedy. Dig deep into Shakespeare’s language and ideas, while honing acting skills and making new friends.

Shakespeare's Stories Session 1: Magic & Mayhem (July 22-26, 2024)
Our youngest campers will learn the stories and characters of Shakespeare’s plays through story-telling, creative dramatics, theatre games, and creative projects. A fun way to introduce children to the plays, and spark young imaginations.
Young Company Session 3: Julius Caesar (July 22- August 9, 2024)
